Alfred Sisley

French 🇫🇷 1839 - 1899

Alred Sisley was an Impressionist painter who consistently painted landscapes for the span of his artistic career. Born in France to affluent British parents, he spent most of his life in France. He was an advocated for painting en plein air, or outside, which was viewed as very cutting edge at the time. Sisley is often overshadowed by fellow Impressionists such as Monet, but his work shows consistent talent and a stalwart focus on landscape as subject.

Sisley was known for starting his paintings with the sky, capturing the essence of the scene with a focus on atmosphere and light.

Every picture shows a spot with which the artist has fallen in love.
