Edward Moran

American 🇺🇸 1829 - 1901

Edward Moran was an American landscape painter who primarily painted maritime scenes. His most well known work, a series of thirteen paintings depicting the maritime history of the United States, was displayed at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair.

Moran chose to paint thirteen paintings for his maritime history series because of the significance the number thirteen has in US history, like the thirteen colonies and thirteen stars and stripes on the flag.
