Sweden 1869 - 1934
Ester Almqvist was a pioneer in Swedish Expressionism. She worked mostly in Lund, and many of her well known paintings reflect her surroundings. She began exhibiting in the 1890s and although her early work has some Impressionist influences, her later work matures with more Expressionist characteristics.
In 1992 her painting The Meeting was chosen to become a stamp in Sweden.
