German 🇩🇪 1880 - 1916
Franz Marc was a German Expressionist painter and printmaker. He is a founding member of The Blue Rider journal, and a lot of his work still survives today even though it was denounced by the Nazis during WWII. Most of his later works depict animals in a natural environment, but are painted in an abstracted, almost cubist manner.
His painting Landscape with Horses was discovered alongside a thousand other paintings in 2012 in the apartment of a Nazi art dealer's son.
