France 1875 - 1963
Jacques Villon, also known as Gaston Duchamp, was an abstract painter and printmaker who worked within the Cubist movement. He was heavily involved in the art community, and although he is often overshadowed by his famous younger brother, he produced work consistently throughout his lifetime. He notably created a completely graphic language for Cubism, which he used in his prints.
Gaston Duchamp took on the pseudonym Jacques Villon to differentiate himself from his brothers, who were also artists. Notably, his younger brother is Marcel Duchamp, the well known conceptual artist and Dadaist.
