Jean Béraud was a painter who depicted the nightlife of Paris society and illustrated the everyday Parisian lifestyle. His works often contain an element of satire or mockery aimed at the affluence of Parisian upper society at the time. He also included biblical figures in a contemporary setting in some of this paintings.
Béraud was born in St. Petersburg because his father, a sculptor, was working at St. Isaac's Cathedral at the time.
