John Lavery

John Lavery was a portrait artist who found success after being commissioned to commemorate a visit from Queen Victoria with a painting. From there, he became a popular society painter. He was acquainted with James McNeill Whistler, and the influence on his work is evident. He also painted wartime scenes during World War I.
