Louis Prang

American πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ 1824 - 1909

Louis Prang was a Prussian-born American lithographer and publisher. He is most famously known as the ‘father of the American Christmas card’ because his lithograph company began printing greeting cards in Christmas of 1874 for market.

Prang got the idea for Christmas cards from his wife, who suggested he sell some after receiving a small decorative business card from someone. He tested the idea with a small batch in England and then expanded to the American market the next year.
