Dutch 🇳🇱 1872 - 1944
Piet Mondrian was a Dutch painter who pioneered the development of abstract art. He was also an art theoretician, and his writings and paintings explored his search for universal aesthetics and beauty. The ideals in his paintings and his artistic production influenced several later art movements, including Minimalism and Abstract Expressionism. He began producing his famous grid abstractions between 1919 and 1920.
Piet Mondrian's name is a clever anagram of 'I Paint Modern.' His given name is Pieter Cornelius Mondriaan.
