Sabrina Tirvengadum (b.1984) is a deaf British Mauritian visual artist based in London. Her work is a personal exploration of self discovery inspired by her Mauritian and English heritage. Her ancestral research into the Indian indenture system led to the discovery of a surprising connection to a French surname, prompting her to examine the implications of hidden family narratives carried through the generations. As with many patriarchal societies, the burden of culture mostly affects women.
This new body of work continues this investigative journey that seeks to uncover through imagery alone, reminding us of photography's power to describe the unseen and unsaid. Through the process of reimagining the past using AI generators, digital painting and film, Sabrina takes ownership. Dramatic new worlds are born that fuse real and altered realities, rebuilding the fractured figures within the frame and, in turn, her own past, present and future. In her own words, “I breathe life into my ancestors' stories and pay homage to their existence. Through my work, I hope to empower future generations to share and embrace their rich heritage." Sabrina uses her art as a tool to promote inclusivity and challenge ableist systems in both her culture and Western society. She continuously pushes the boundaries of her artistic prowess through experimentation with new techniques and mediums. 

Mark Allred (b.1985) is a London based visual artist who works with a diverse range of creative mediums, including photography, graphic design, motion graphics, and 3D. Mark has a personal connection to this journey exploring Sabrina’s family heritage as he joins it. His collaboration with Sabrina brings new perspectives to his partner's interpretations along with parallels of Sabrina’s family history of interracial connections.
