William James Glackens

American 🇺🇸 1870 - 1938

William Glackens was an American realist painter and illustrator. Glackens was one of the co-founders of the Ashcan School, which is best known for portraying everyday life in major cities such as New York. His later works shift from the dark-hued Ashcan tradition to a lighter tone, suggesting influence from Renoir.
